I have started a blog. WOW! What to write about… This blog will be a place for me to share my design process and features project launches for future work. I will also share my feelings on design best practices, visual marketing approaches, and… well anything related to my passion for design. But for now, I am going to launch my blog with a little recap on where I have been for the past 5 years in the world of design.

After a long wait, I have decided to relaunch CarrieDesign with fresh look and feel and updated portfolio. What have I been up to for the past 5 years, you may ask? Well, I have been actively designing fulltime, even though I have been a little quiet in the freelance world. For the past 5 years, I have been working for Evan-Moor Educational Publishers. I started out working in their Production department designing high-end print pieces for their Hot Topics: High Interest Reading program. This included creating custom illustrations, photography, photo manipulation, font creation and customization, print page layout, and prepping files for the printer. I created over 30 individual selections, which spanned over an entire year. The project was a designer’s dream job and one where I have gained so much design experience and creative output. When I look back now, I don’t think it can get much more creative than this. You can check out some of the examples in my online portfolio.

From working in the Production department at Evan-Moor, I moved to their Marketing Department, where I have been designing marketing web graphics ever since. This includes a complete redesign of www.evan-moor.com, where I designed and programmed the front end of the majority of the site. I designed the home page, landing pages, and product support pages. I also designed all the Flash animations, created technical tutorial videos, and more. We have a development team that took care of all the back-end and dynamic code. I worked very closely with the developers to make sure my front end code and designs worked well with their tools. Also while in Marketing, I have designed multiple Marketing microsites (wow, that is a mouth full), email campaigns, and online promotional materials that have helped support our Outside Sales team, Direct Mail customers, and Wholesale customers.

While working for Evan-Moor, I have also slowly gotten back into the freelance world. I have been creating some wonderful websites for my local community and building some fabulous strong professional relationships. I am active in the fine arts and performing arts community, and have created websites for some fabulous dance and theater companies. I have also contributed to my community by designing a website for my parent led preschool co-op. Creating a website for 3pens has helped our co-op (comprising of 100′s of families) raise money to keep our program afloat, apply for grants, and spread awareness of our program on a more widespread level, that we would have not been available to without the website.

Coming this fall, my family is welcoming the arrival of our second child. I will be taking a short break in September from designing and then coming back full force in December. I am offering web and print services as well as illustration and corporate identity branding. I am very excited to start getting my name out there and spread the word of my services. I see great things in the future of CarrieDesign. I have over 10 years of design experience working for companies as well as running my own business. I have big dreams that I will be striving to fill. My goal is to create strong long-term professional relationships with all my clients. I always go above and beyond the call of duty to create the best possible design solutions for all my clients needs. I am passionate about design and put my all in every project I take on. I am so excited to continue on this journey and see where it leads me.
